Yin Yoga is an introspective practice that offers a chance to turn inward and nurture the calm, quiet centre that is in all of us. Postures are held for 2-5 minutes on the floor and aided with the use of props such as blocks, bolsters and blankets. We will finish with Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation practiced lying down to promote deep rest and relaxation, using a body scan and breath awareness.
These inward practices allow the mind and body to unwind, rest & restore. Other benefits can include..
~ Enhanced mood state
~ Encourages mindfulness
~ Reduced muscular tension
~ Slows down the pace of life
~ Better sleep
~ And compassion towards self.
Beginners welcome. No experience needed.
You are invited to join Martine Coates (McDougall), a mental health professional who works as a mental health clinician and also uses yoga psycho-therapeutically as a tool for mental health and wellbeing. Trauma Informed Yin helps us to come into our bodies in a safe and healing way, allowing us to develop curiosity for growth and lifelong learning. We work with and consider our energy body, physical body, emotional and mental body and train our mind for awareness. This is the key to providing centering and balance to the nervous system which controls how we feel in the world.
A balanced and naturally adaptive nervous system is key to our health and well being. Our spinal column and brain inform the complex communication system that operates the central nervous system and from that all the cell messaging is co-ordinated through the rest of the body via the somatic nervous system - your sensory and motor neurons.
Visit our MHS Directory for mental health resources & where to go in crisis.
We also offer Mental Health First Aid Training. Our Next 'Conversations About Suicide' is Booking Now for August 17th.
