We are excited to welcome Sharon Cody (reg. Counsellor) to our team of health professionals. Sharon will be available for one to one sessions Wednesday afternoons as well as offering a regular weekly class in Creative Expression every Thursday 11am.
“As a registered Counsellor (B.Couns,UNDA, ACA) and a registered professional member of the College of Creative Arts (GradDipCAT, MU, ACA), I work with clients using an integrative model of creative expression (all forms of visual art-making, music, movement and expressive writing), mindfulness and more traditional psychotherapeutic models such as person centered, strength based and narrative therapy, all within a creative framework."
Art provides the vehicle to gain insight into our behaviour, to express our feelings and process difficult issues. Art is for everyone, the main focus of creative expression is on your own process in art-making, not the end result. No art experience is needed.
INTERESTED In ONE to ONE SESSIONS?
The Process:
I offer a wide range of materials for an integrative process of mindfulness and art-making - including drawing, painting, expressive writing, collage, sculpture (clay and natural materials), music and movement for sensory expression and development. The art-making can be either structured (more directed and guided by me to meet your needs) or unstructured (you take the lead and decide what art making process you are drawn to for support).
What happens next and what to expect:
Initial Inquiry:
After you have made an initial inquiry (envisagecats@gmail.com) we can arrange to make a time for a free 15 minute phone consult to discuss your needs and answer any questions you may have.
The flow of sessions:
Creative Arts Therapies (CAT) one to one or individual sessions run for 50-60min.
Check-In:
Every session will begin with a check-in, at this point we’ll discuss where you are at, any concerns that may have arisen since last session and a time to discuss, set or revise short or long term therapeutic goals.
The art-making:
This is essentially shaped by you the client. The art-making may take up the majority of the session, or it may play a smaller part to help you to resolve issues such as internal conflicts, reducing stress or anxiety, developing more healthy relationships, or just to nurture your general well-being. Engaging in art-making in the psychotherapeutic sense, essentially gives permission for you to explore, view and challenge your inner and outer perspectives.
Post art-making/Discussion:
The whole art-making process maybe silent, quite talkative or somewhere in between, depending on how you wish to work in a particular moment or session. On completion of artwork, you will be invited to talk, comment and share what has come up for you in connection to your artwork and in the art-making process. Again, this can be more structured by me giving prompts and asking questions, or more unstructured. In both modes, you as the client are encouraged to freely express your thoughts and feelings, so that you can develop a more integrated sense of self, and build self-awareness and acceptance in a safe, non-judgmental environment.
Check-Out:
We close out each session with a self-reflection of thoughts and feelings – this may be in form of a short mindfulness or movement exercise.
